iphone5s-580-90The Apple iPhone 5 is the latest best selling handset from the California based manufacturer, following in the footsteps of previous instalments of the series like the iPhone 4S. The device packs some of the most advanced mobile technology features on the market, and coupled with its millions of users this has led to plenty of speculation about what Apple has in store for its iconic smartphone line.

For several months, we’ve been reporting on the latest rumours regarding the next iPhone model. It is now all but official that Apple will be launching an iPhone 5S in 2013, with a rumoured release date in September. However, there have also been rumours that a new iPhone 6 model will be released at some point, with a larger display and a number of upgraded features.

Speculation about the larger iPhone has been circulating ever since Samsung released the Galaxy Note, with the current Galaxy Note 2 model continuing to dominate the phablet niche which continues to grow in popularity. Recently, uSwitch has reported that Glen Yeung, an analyst at Citi Research claims that the iPhone 6 will not hit the market until next year. The device is rumoured to sport a 4.8 inch display, and although this is smaller than that of the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S4, it is considerably larger than the 4 inch display on the current iPhone 5 model. Opinions will be divided as to whether this would make the device a smartphone or a tablet, but there would certainly been high demand for a larger iPhone.

While it looks like the release of the iPhone 6 is still some way off, plenty of reliable sources have claimed that an iPhone 5S is on the way. As Apple is yet to officially announce the device, it is unclear whether this will be a slightly upgraded version of the current model, or a completely new device, with lots of speculation suggesting it may be a more affordable iPhone with a plastic casing.

As usual, we expect to hear plenty more rumours about the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 5S in coming months, so we will report back with the latest details.
